Benjamine Gilmore Marquise (The Netherlands), viola
Benjamin Gilmore was born in 1987 into a musical family and grew up in England. At the age of ten he went to the Yehudi Menuhin School to study with Natalia Boyarskaya, and since 2005 has been studying with Pavel Vernikov and Julian Rachlin at the Vienna Conservatory.
While in Vienna he became a member of the Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Wiener Kammersolisten. In the last few years he has performed in many prestigious halls around the world including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Brahms Saal in Vienna, and the Wigmore Hall in London, and at festivals such as Kuhmo and “Julian Rachlin and Friends” in Dubrovnik.
He is a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with many renowned artists including Natalia Gutman, Gordan Nikolitch, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin, Nabuko Imai, Janine Jansen and Elisabeth Leonskaya, with the composers Gavin Bryars and Giya Kancheli, and above all with his grandfather, the legendary conductor Lev Markiz.
