Alexander Chaushian (Armenia), cello

Alexander Chaushian has performed with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra at Vienna’s Konzerthaus; with the London Mozart Players and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London; with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Royal National Orchestra of Belgium; with Les Solistes Européens de Luxemburg in a gala concert conducted by Yehudi Menuhin; with the Boston Pops Orchestra at Boston Symphony Hall; with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and Queen Elizabeth Hall; as a soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall; with The Academy of St Martin’s in the Field at the Barbican; with the Padova Chamber Orchestra at the Sala Verdi, Milan; as well a highly successful debut at the Suntory Hall, Japan.

He has given recitals at festivals and prestigious halls including the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris; in Montpellier, where he received the Beracasa Foundation Prize of Radio-France; and at the Montpellier Festival. Currently he is the Artistic Director of the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus and the Yerevan Music Festival in Armenia. Born into a family of musicians, Alexander Chaushian studied with his grandfather, Alexander Chaushian Sr., and Zare Sarkisian, and later at the Yehudi Menuhin School and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

He has received many prizes and awards including First Prize in the Premio Mozart Competition in Verona, Italy , and First Prize in the International Music Competition in the Netherlands. Alexander Chaushian has collaborated with many distinguished musicians such as Levon Chilingirian, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Phillippe Cassard, Yuri Bashmet, Diemut Poppen, and Julia Fischer.
